Joe Verbanic

Head Coach

Joe Verbanic enters his 12th season as the head coach of George Mason softball.

When he came to Mason, Verbanic brought with him more than 20 years combined coaching experience at both the collegiate and high school levels. Most recently, Verbanic was at Alta Vista High School (1986-2004) where he taught several courses, including physical education, weights & fitness training and Life Skills. Additionally, Verbanic served as an assistant to the San Diego State coaching staff at the same time.

Last season, Verbanic enjoyed its most successful campaign at the helm of the Patriots, leading the team to the semi-finals of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship, beating top-seeded Dayton on the way there. Mason finished the season 21-27 overall and 11-12 in the A-10.

Caitlyn de la Haba

Assistant Coach

Former Villanova pitcher Caitlyn de la Haba enters her first season as assistant coach of George Mason University's softball team. She works primarily with Mason's pitchers.

De la Haba arrives at Mason after an assistant coach stint at Lehigh, where she spent nearly two years. Two of de la Haba's main responsibilities were to coordinate recruitment and monitor student-athletes' academic success to ensure compliance. In addition, she has been a softball instructor around Pennsylvania and Virginia for 10 years, preparing players at various positions and age for the next level of competition.

"I could not be more thankful to Coach Verbanic for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Mason Softball program," de la Haba said about the opportunity. "I am extremely humbled to be working with such a talented group of student-athletes, including a very strong pitching staff and I look forward to helping this program toward its goal of becoming Atlantic 10 champion!"
