Joe Abraham

Head Coach

Joe Abraham's impact on the Charger softball program was immediate. In 2012, he guided the team to a winning record in his first season. In 2016, he led it to new levels of success.

Abraham was named the 2016 GLIAC Coach of the Year after leading Hillsdale to its best record in 25 years and 27 total victories. Hillsdale fell one spot short of its first NCAA Division II Tournament berth in a generation as well.

In his first year as head coach in 2012, Abraham guided the Chargers to a record of 25-24, their first winning record in six years. His aggressive style led to the team stealing 85 bases, which ranked in the top 20 nationally and blew away the old school record of 65 by a team in a single season.

Jim Zoltowski

Riley Johnson

Assistant Coach

Hillsdale College is pleased to announce the hiring of Riley Johnson as assistant softball coach. She began her duties in November 2016.

Johnson comes to Hillsdale after a four-year playing career at Syracuse University. She graduated magna cum laude in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in communications and rhetorical studies, and acquired her master's in sport venue and event management in 2016. While with the Orangemen, she was named to the ACC All-Academic Team, was a member of the National Society of College Scholars, part of Lambda Pi Eta-National Honor Society and was president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Most recently, she was a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and the Georgia High School Athletic Association.

Johnson said the opportunity at Hillsdale represented the ideal next step in her coaching career. "I've always wanted to coach college softball, and when I saw this job open up, I knew it was the right one for me," she said. "I couldn't pass it up. It's a great school and just a great place to start my career.
