Connie Miner joined the Oakland Athletics staff on Sept. 10, 2012 and brings 23 years of head coaching experience and over 500 career wins.
Under the direction of head coach Miner, the 2015 Oakland softball team, in just its second year in the Horizon League, completed one of the most successful campaigns in program history capturing a share of the program's first regular season title and followed that by going 3-0 to claim the first Horizon League Tournament championship to advance the NCAA Regional.
Miner also earned Horizon League Coach of the Year honors while seven student-athletes earned HL post season honors including Erin Kownacki, Sara Cupp and Courtnee Johnson (First-Team), Sarah Hartley and Jackie Kisman (Second-Team), and Julia Morales and Haley Zemmer (All-Freshman Team).
Karen Baird enters her first season as assistant coach and brings over 16 years of head coaching experience to the Oakland softball program.
In Baird's 10 years at EMU (2003-2013), her teams consistently ranked nationally in Division I top-10 in GPA including first in 2004 (3.55), third-2007 (3.52), sixth-2005 (3.46), eighth-2006 (3.41) and ninth-2012 (3.55). She also led the team to a Mid-American Conference (MAC) West Division title and first ever MAC tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth in 2007 and was named MAC Coach of the Year.
Prior to her tenure at EMU, Baird spent six years as the head softball coach at Albion (1998-2002) guiding the Britons to three consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate (MIAA) Tournament appearances including a title in 2001.
