Summer Dawgs converge in OKC

There's plenty to come beginning July 22nd as the KFC World Cup of Softball gets underway in Oklahoma City, and six current, former or future Huskies will be on hand to compete for their national teams.
Former Husky second baseman Ashley Charters will play for the United States while Danielle Lawrie and Jenn Salling will represent Canada, along with incoming freshman Victoria Hayward.
Two other current Huskies, Niki Williams and Shawna Wright, will play for the USA Softball Futures Team.
Team USA and Canada open the competition Thursday when they square off in a 5:00 p.m. (PT) game, which you can watch live on ESPN and online at ESPN3.com.
You can also catch Team USA vs. Japan both Friday and Saturday at 5:00 p.m. PT, against the USA Futures team Saturday at 11:00 a.m. PT and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. vs. Canada. The championship game of the World Cup will be play next Monday at 6:00 p.m. PT.
Friday and Saturday's games vs. Japan will air live on ESPN while Sunday's game vs. Canada and the championship game will be shown on ESPN2. All of those contests will air live on ESPN3.com.
Many of the games will also air in Canada on TSN.
Charters completed her UW career in 2009, capping a three-time All-America career with the 2009 NCAA championship.
Both Lawrie and Salling were also a part of that 2009 title team. Lawrie finished her career at the UW in June, having won the ASA/USA Softball National Player of the Year and the Honda Award for softball as both a junior and senior. Salling, who will be a senior next year at Washington, was named a first-team All-American as a junior shortstop in 2010.
Williams was a sophomore in 2010, when she earned first-team All-America. In 2009, she made the all-tournament team at the Women's College World Series. Wright was the Huskies' starting catcher as a freshman in 2010, earning second-team All-Pac-10 and first-team Pac-10 All-Freshman honors.
Hayward, an outfielder from Mountain View, Calif., was born in Toronto, Canada, and thus plays for the Canadian National Team. She first made her country's senior squad in the summer after her junior year of high school and is the youngest player ever to appear in a Canadian jersey at the senior level.
